This Wednesday (25), Operation Anhangá, to combat illegal logging in the Arariboia indigenous land in Maranhão, presented the preliminary results of the action. The operation also aims to protect indigenous communities.

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Anderson Torres, accompanied the presentation of preliminary results. “We came here because we understand that this was a model Operation. An Operation that involved all agencies, practically all agencies in cooperation, in integration. Each one fulfilling its role, but in an articulated way. And we understand that this is the only way and the only way to effectively fight crime in the country, organized crime, especially environmental crimes like in this case here”, said the minister.

Anderson Torres was accompanied by the Minister of the Environment, Joaquim Leite. On the occasion, a document was also signed to strengthen technical cooperation between the two Ministries and improve the joint work of inspection, investigation and combating environmental crimes.
“These crimes will be fought by us together. This is a challenge we have. And I would like to congratulate the Ministry of Justice and Public Security for this moment, for this partnership with us”, said the Minister of the Environment.
The Federal Police's investigations pointed out several points of logging, sawmills, furniture and residences with criminal activities in the indigenous reserve.
In addition to complying with search and seizure warrants, the operation aimed to decapitalize those involved, with the seizure of assets and valuables.
The work of the Federal Police included the Brasil M.A.I.S Program, a tool acquired by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security that allows the reception of high definition images to reinforce the work of forensic investigation, investigation and police operations.
