President Jair Bolsonaro to speak for the third time at the UN General Assembly
After participating in the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States, next Tuesday, 20th, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will meet with the presidents of Poland, Serbia, Guatemala and Ecuador. Bolsonaro is also due to meet with UN Secretary General António Guterres. The president is expected to arrive in New York on Monday, the 19th, after attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London, UK. The only European Union country included in the series of meetings booked in London is Poland. The Itamaraty Palace reported that the lack of meetings with leaders of the main economic powers, such as the United States and other members of the European Union, is due to the short time that President Bolsonaro will spend in New York. Even so, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not rule out the possibility of other meetings in London.
By tradition, the Brazilian president is the first to speak at the UN General Assembly. This will be the third time that Bolsonaro will participate in the event. His speech should last 10 to 15 minutes. Among the topics suggested by Brazilian diplomacy for the president's speech are the post-Covid-19 pandemic moment and the military conflict in Ukraine, but the final decision on whether or not to accept the suggestions is up to Bolsonaro. In 2019, Bolsonaro had no bilateral meetings at the meeting. Last year, he met with then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Polish President Andrzej Duda, whom he will meet again next week. Itamaraty did not say whether there was a request for a meeting with US President Joe Biden or other European leaders.
