Jair Bolsonaro seeks re-election in the second round after falling behind his opponent, Lula, on the 2nd
Last Tuesday, 4th, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), candidate for reelection, participated in a meeting with religious leaders and also in a cult in the capital of São Paulo. He spoke to worshipers from two Assembly of God churches alongside First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro. The president was also accompanied by elected senator Marcos Pontes (PL), his son, deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) and state government candidate Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans). On her first visit, to a church in Belenzinho, east of São Paulo, the first lady spoke before the president and asked those present to talk to those who still don't know who to vote for. Pastor José Wellington asked the faithful to convince their northeastern relatives. Bolsonaro followed the same line: “We had a big defeat in the Northeast, but it's not the northeastern people's fault. There, they were run for at least 20 years by the people of that political party. So it is a difficult situation that many of them find themselves in. We don't want to make anyone's situation worse. In some capital of the Northeast, I won, the capital of Alagoas. It is a sign that there are people who are on our side,” he declared. Bolsonaro also stated that former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is more than a political opponent: “A person who is now seeking an election here in Brazil, which is ours… not a political opponent, but an enemy of all that is good in our homeland.”
Still in the speech, Bolsonaro said that he acquired a prayer routine: “I have an almost routine, which I started three years ago, guided by an evangelical leadership, which has worked. And, with more fervor, I've been practicing this routine for the last few days, every morning after getting up, bending my knees, saying an 'Our Father' and making a wish. My request is that our people, one day, will not suffer the pains of communism,” he said. On the same day, in the morning, Bolsonaro received the support of political leaders from the Southeast: the re-elected governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo) and the governors of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro (PL), and of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia. (PSDB). While the meeting with Zema was in Brasília, Bolsonaro was with Garcia in São Paulo, at Congonhas airport. Through social media, the president also received support from former judge Sergio Moro (União), who was Minister of Justice in the Bolsonaro government until 2020, and former prosecutor Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos) – both linked to the Lava Jato operation.
