Measure aimed at reducing default in the loan portfolio and guaranteeing sustainability to the Fund will take effect as of this Monday (03/07) - Photo: Marcello Casal/ Agência Brasil

Students who have contracts signed up to December 31, 2017 and who are in arrears for more than 90 days, considering the date of publication of the Provisional Measure (12/30/2021), can now make the request at the respective financial agent .

Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal, financial agents of Fies, will make available, through various means, the renegotiation of debts. In order to have the name removed from the restrictive credit registers, the beneficiaries must pay the entry amount at the time of renegotiation, corresponding to the first installment. The minimum amount of the installment is R$ 200. The operation can be carried out in full in the service channels made available by the financial agents.

The Provisional Measure
The MP published at the end of last year aims to reduce default in the loan portfolio and ensure the sustainability of the Fund. Of the 2.6 million active contracts, formalized until 2017, more than 2 million are in the amortization phase, with a debt balance of R$ 87.2 billion. Of these, more than one million students are in default, that is, more than 90 days late in payment. This represents a 51.7% default rate and amounts to R$9 billion in unpaid installments.

For debts that are more than 360 days overdue, the MP provides discounts of 92% for those enrolled in CadÚnico and Auxílio Emergencial, which represents about 548,000 delinquent students, and 86.5% for the others, 524,700 students. In addition, the remaining balance can be paid in up to ten installments.

For the renegotiation of debts with a delay of 90 to 360 days, the Measure provides for installments in up to 150 installments. This will reach around 220 thousand students and a balance of R$ 523 million in unpaid financing or a total debt balance of R$ 10.9 billion.

Renegotiation at CAIXA
As of March 7, around 800,000 students, whose average debt is R$35,000, will be able to renegotiate their contracts at CAIXA in a 100% digital manner.

To assist the student who has hired Fies, CAIXA provides a web environment for interested parties to quickly and easily check whether or not they can request renegotiation in accordance with the rules established by the Fies Management Committee. To do so, simply access the address sifesweb.caixa.gov.br, which is already available for simulations.

After the opening of the adhesion period, on March 7, and after confirming their compliance with the rules and simulating the renegotiation, interested parties will generate a slip for payment of the first installment or, if they choose to settle in one go, of the single installment. All digitally, that is, it is not necessary to go to a CAIXA branch. If you need to update your registration information, just send your personal documents, also online, through the platform.

The payment of the entrance fee or a single installment is a condition for the beneficiary student to join the renegotiation.

For more information, students can access the address or call 0800 726 0101.

Renegotiation at Banco do Brasil
At Banco do Brasil, more than 500 thousand students will be able to renegotiate installments of Fies in arrears, digitally, through the APP.

To join the mobile channel renegotiation, simply access the Debt Solutions, Fies Renegotiation option. Through the solution, the student will be able to verify if he is part of the target audience, the options available for debt settlement or installment, the discounts granted, as well as the entry values and other installments.

In a few steps, it will be possible to contract the renegotiation and generate the slip for the full payment of the debt or down payment, as you prefer. In addition to mobile, the contract can also be made at any BB branch, with the same conditions.

It is worth remembering that the renegotiation rules are in accordance with that established by the Fies Management Committee. Customers can obtain more information through the BB App, portal, WhatsApp (61-4004-0001) and the BB Service Center (0800-729-0001).
