The Internet Brazil program will provide free mobile broadband connection to low-income children and adolescents in basic education in the public school system, including those enrolled in schools in indigenous and quilombola communities.

In Rio Grande do Norte, the municipalities of Caicó and Mossoró will be the first to participate in the program, which will distribute chips that allow free mobile broadband internet access to students from families enrolled in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico ).

The President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, and the Minister of Communications, Fábio Faria, made the symbolic delivery of the chips this Friday (17), in Natal (RN), to four students from public schools.

In the first stage, up to 700 thousand chips must be delivered. In addition to Caicó and Mossoró, the cities of Campina Grande, in Paraíba, Caruaru and Petrolina, in Pernambuco, and Juazeiro, in Bahia, are included. Still this year, around 10,000 chips will be distributed to students who attend Elementary School (from the 3rd year) or High School in public, municipal or state schools. Internet access may be granted to all students who apply for the benefit, even if they are part of the same family.

“By being with these children by our side, we see, in fact, our responsibility to those who will soon succeed us. We must work and strive for them, we must dedicate ourselves and give the best of ourselves”, highlighted the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, during the ceremony, reinforcing that the Government has invested in public policies to reduce this 'digital gap'.

In his speech, Fábio Faria pointed out that, when he took over the Pasta, there were more than 50 million people without internet in the country. “We have already taken connection to 11 million. With Wi-Fi Brasil, there are already more than 17 thousand points spread across Brazil and we connect 12 thousand schools”, commented Faria, remembering that he is completing two years at the head of the Ministry of Communications.

“Students will receive a chip so they can access the internet at home. We will start with 700 thousand chips, but we will reach 14 million from the Cadastro Único to access content for free”, he highlighted. “You children will have 5G in schools, you will use the technology and it will be the adults who will change Brazil”, added the minister. He also stated that the forecast is that 5G technology will come into activity in the capital Potiguar as early as August.

The Internet Brazil
The program will be implemented gradually, in accordance with budgetary and financial availability, technical requirements for the provision of the service and prioritization criteria. It will be up to the schools whose students will benefit from the program to receive and distribute the Internet Brazil chips, register the distribution and keep the chips that, for whatever reason, were not delivered.

Potentially, the expansion of internet access that the program will provide is intended for all 22 million students from families enrolled in CadÚnico who attend elementary school, from the 3rd year, or high school in public, municipal or state schools. .

The law that established the Internet Brazil program was sanctioned at the end of May by President Jair Bolsonaro. The program was created in December 2021, through a Provisional Measure. The implementation process was consolidated at the end of April, via Interministerial Ordinance No. 5,193/2022 of the Ministries of Communications (MCom) and Education (MEC).

To receive the benefit of the Internet Brazil Program, students from the basic education network must already have a smartphone, to insert the chip with the data packages provided by the Federal Government.

More deliveries in the state
The Ministry of Communications also expanded the free Wi-Fi connection to 48 public squares in the capital of Potiguar, including Praça Mãe Peregrina, where the event took place, through Infovia Potiguar – fiber optic network infrastructure that guarantees quality internet , high speed and free. There are already 1.2 kilometers of fiber optics, with 206 kilometers of networks delivered and the rest will be completed within 24 months. The shares add up to an investment of R$ 40 million. All this to connect 2 million people.

It was also announced the distribution of 3.1
