Tarcisio de Freitas attack
Police officers protect themselves during a shooting during the visit of Tarcísio de Freitas in the community of Paraisópolis, in SP
The candidate for the government of the State of São Paulo Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas (Republicans) was the target this Monday, 17, of an attack in the community of Paraisópolis, in the South Zone of the capital. The former Minister of Infrastructure was carrying out the campaign agenda at the location, where he participated in the inauguration of the First University Pole of Paraisópolis. The report team of TV Jovem Pan News was present when the shooting started. According to reporter Camila Yunes, the candidate was preparing for the press conference when a burst of gunfire was heard. “The candidate's security team acted quickly along with the police. We lay on the floor, everybody, we were in a beauty salon. We all ducked and got to safety. The former minister also hid and went to the van, which was an armored car. We went out with him in this armored car. Even the candidate Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas was very calm, he remained very serene”, says Yunes. In his social network, Tarcísio said that “everyone is fine”. “During a visit to the 1st University Center of Paraisópolis, we were attacked by criminals. Our security team was quickly reinforced with a brilliant performance by the São Paulo Military Police. A bandit was shot. We are investigating details about the situation”, wrote the candidate. The Military Police and the Civil Police of São Paulo are investigating the exchange of fire during the candidate's visit. The Secretary of Public Security, General João Camilo Pires de Campos, will give a press conference on the shooting in Paraisópolis.

On social media, supporters of Tarcísio de Freitas lament the case. Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), said he spoke to the candidate after the attack. "He is fine. Thank God, the attack in Paraisópolis/SP did not cause fatalities”, wrote the parliamentarian, on Twitter. On the other hand, São Paulo state deputy Gil Diniz also stressed that the former minister is doing well and informed that the person affected died. “Tarcísio is shot at in Paraisópolis, São Paulo. A tramp was hit and died. Governor is fine, thank God,” he said. The current governor of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), said he ordered the opening of an investigation into what happened in the community. "Military police acted quickly and ensured everyone's safety," he wrote. Asked about what happened, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who supports Tarcísio's candidacy in São Paulo, said he received a call from the former minister. “It's all preliminary, I don't want to get ahead of myself yet, if it was an action against his team, if it was an isolated action, if there was already a conflict in the region. It's premature to talk about it. What I do know is that a few days ago there was a two-shot action in a church where the First Lady would be present. The element was arrested, detained, confessed that he was from the Comando Vermelho and that the two shots were to intimidate and prevent people from going to that first lady's event. This is happening, we regret it. (…) It is a sign that he should be even more concerned about his safety,” he concluded.
