New Year's Eve 2019 to 2020 in Copacabana
Copacabana is the stage for one of the most traditional New Year's Eve parties in Brazil
The city of Rio de Janeiro intensifies preparations for the end of year festivities. 25 sound towers are being set up on Copacabana beach, which is one of the city's ten fireworks. In addition to the sound towers, mobile medical stations and chemical toilets are being set up, as well as sound systems and special lighting. In Copacabana alone, in the south zone, ten ferries will be made available, which should guarantee a firework of at least 16 minutes with a very special view. In order to avoid agglomerations, access to Copacabana beach will be restricted, as reported by Mayor Eduardo Paes. From 7 pm, there will be a blockade of cars, except cars for personal use or taxis with passengers with proof of work, residence or accommodation. Already at 20:00, the blockade of public transport, buses and subways will begin. And, at 10 pm, the blockade will be total and it will no longer be possible to access the neighborhood with any type of vehicle. Including residents, workers and guests. In addition to Copacabana, there will be fireworks at nine other points throughout the city, in an attempt, according to the city hall, to avoid the need for large displacements by the population. The presentations will be held in Flamengo, Barra da Tijuca, Recreio, Sepetiba, Piscinão de Ramos, Penha, Ilha do Governador, Madureira and Bangu. The City Hall authorized the operation of the kiosks along the Rio de Janeiro waterfront. The only restriction will be the non-use of enclosures that could close the public space. Inspection will be the responsibility of the Secretariat for Public Order, which will work with more than three thousand agents, including municipal guards and agents from bodies linked to the secretariat on New Year's Eve.
