Security

In light of this tragic event, which unfortunately is not an isolated case and could happen again in the future, it is crucial that we reflect on the security measures that criminal lawyers can adopt to reduce the risks inherent to practicing their profession. , president of  Nacional - Brazilian Association of Criminal Lawyers, shares some important guidelines.

1. When contacted, it is essential to seek as much information as possible about the case in question.

2. Schedule the first meeting at your office or in a safe location, avoiding meetings in unknown or suspicious locations.

3. When serving a release permit, avoid offering your client a ride, choosing to maintain a professional distance.

4. Avoid sharing your real-time location on social media as this may expose you to dangerous situations.

5. Remain calm and avoid getting involved in heated discussions with clients or former clients, always seeking to resolve conflicts peacefully and professionally.

6. Know in depth all the legislation and prerogatives of the law, especially the Law Statute, which regulates the rights and duties of lawyers.

Bonus

emphasizes that lawyers who work in the criminal area must be fully familiar with current legislation and, mainly, with the Law Statute, which outlines their professional prerogatives.

"When we have knowledge, we feel more confident and aware of our limits. The criminal lawyer does not defend the criminal or the crime, but rather the rights of those who are accused of committing a crime. Therefore, by mastering the Statute and the Code of Ethics and Discipline, the lawyer becomes more confident in his professional performance."
